The Taxien Temples of Malta: Travel View

The Taxien temple is one of the finest temples of the world and the most popular tourist destinations in Malta. It has two other additional temples attached to it. This extremely popular tourist destination has been recognized as the world heritage sites by the UNESCO in 1980. 

 The temple is famous for its outstanding architectural and decorative works. It is believed that the temple was built in 3100 BC. The most attractive is the stone works of the temples. But three-pair of apses were used in the Taxien temple which makes it different from others. It is believed that people were coming to this temple to perform their rituals in different occasions and possibly animal sacrifice was also performed here. 

The accidental discovery of the famous Hypogeum paved the way to discover The Taxien temple. After discovery of Hypogeum in 1913, a landowner had requested the Chief of Archaeologist to excavate his land as his farmhands used to strike with large stones when they cultivated his field. Soon the excavation commenced and the big Taxien temple was discovered.
